*WHY IS DANCE A FORM OF ART?*

Is this art? Of course it is. Why? Well, from my point of view it is sequence of body movements and steps. It is a way of expressing one’s self through motions. I love to dance. Dancing is my life and I have been dancing ever since I was 6. It was all I did, where ever I was and it never mattered who was watching. I use to dance in my sleep, constantly imagining I was somewhere performing in a big place with millions of people. I even danced in the aisle of the stores when my parents would go shopping. Anyway, this is an art that is admired by so many people. Dancing is the act of moving the body in rhythm, usually in time to music. Every where we turn, on any occasion we pass by, there will be people dancing, whether it is Hip-Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Tango, Ballroom etc. Any style of dance, in my eyes, is considered to be a form of art. It can be a talent or a gift. Throughout my life I have done many styles of dance such as: Liturgical, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Latino, Tango and African. All through each of these dances I have been able to express my feelings and emotions to other people as well as the supernatural, (GOD). Being a dancer is who I am and who I will always be. Also, being at Columbia, I will be taking Dance courses next semester and I’m very excited to start. Finally, I chose this piece of art because it suits my interest the most and it is something that I love to do.
